LOW ALLOY HEAT TREATABLE STEELS
DESCRIPTION
Electrode for welding tool steels which can be thermally treated to improve mechanical properties. A minimal amount of Hydrogen in the welding material enables crack free welding.
APPLICATION
- SAE 8630.
- SAE 4130.
- SAE 4340.

Technique and Recommendations
When base metal thickness is bigger than 6 mm the steel should be pre-warmed to 250°C and welding should be performed immediately. The interpass temperature should be maintained at 250°C. Thinner material should be warmed if rapid cooling is suspected. A short arc should be maintained with a seam no wider than the thickness of the electrode.
